Problems with Page Numbers
As an educational institution, it would be beneficial if a tutor could say to their student, “go to page 42” and the student could navigate to the correct page irrespective of the format, i.e. hard copy printed book, PDF, web based VLE material, eBook, DAISY DTB etc etc.
There doesn’t appear to be a standard way of handling Page Numbers within different documents.
A PDF will have it’s own page number code, this is different from a MS Word Document page numbering, different from a HTML page numbering, ect etc.
Import a PDF into Easy Converter to produce a DAISY DTB.
The PDF pages are different from the pages shown in the MS Word editing stage of the Easy Converter production process & therefore the output DAISY DTB also has different page numbers.
If all the different systems used the same tags, or if they used the XML 1.0 tags then they could be transformed into any format required. This would make life so much easier for everyone.
