During 2010 Douglas Blane created & managed the official website for the first Woburn Sands Folk Festival: www.wsff.co.uk. This was done using a modular dynamic Content Management System (CMS) using a MySQL database & PHP which enabled committee members to update the website themselves. In order to maximise Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) & Viral Marketing techniques the website included full integration of metadata, sub-domains, RSS feeds & social networking websites including: facebook, myspace, youtube, twitter & Linked In. The website was written and validated to strict W3C, HTML, XHTML, XML, RSS, CSS, Section 508 accessibility and WAI accessibility standards and checked across different browsers including mobile devices. Using a Nokia E71 smartphone, Doug was able to post important updates during the event on twitter, these were automatically disseminated onto the main website & other social networking websites in real time.
I would say that the success of the first Woburn Sands Folk Festival in July 2010 owed a great deal to the excellent website created for us by Douglas Blane. He is an expert in his field, and showed great enthusiasm for the project from start to finish.
