IT Training Recommendations

As a new student who is very much the wrong side of 50 and very unfamiliar with both the OU and computers in general, I was unsure of what I was letting myself in for. In fact I found I really had to dig deep and bite the bullet in order to enrol on my course, especially as I am a disabled student. For me the use of computers is essential, without my laptop I could not participate. The training I received from Doug was very good, firstly he helped me to setup understand and use my new laptop. He then helped me to set up understand and use all the very complicated software essential for my OU course. Under normal circumstances and from past experiences I always found computer training very complicated and mind numbingly boring. With Doug I found the opposite to be true I always looked forward to the training sessions and found that the time flew by. After each session I found that I had learnt something and understood the software and could if needed put it to practical use. If a friend or family member needed such training I would happily and confidently recommend Doug’s training. There can be no better evidence or confirmation of this than the fact that I am confidently writing and submitting this recommendation, this just goes to show that in my case Doug has taught this old dog some new tricks.

Douglas was very patient and able to assess how much time he needed to spend with me for me to understand the software. I found him friendly and approachable when I needed to ask questions. He helped with organising my computer and ensuring the software was working correctly. I felt totally at ease after the first meeting and would recommend Douglas’s training to anyone.

Doug, came to my home to train me in my new software received from the Open University. If I’m honest it was with some trepidation as I really didn’t think I needed it, however his amazing laid back honest approach changed my mind.
He took his time to realise that I wasn’t stupid, and had a reasonable knowledge and aptitude for working stuff out so tailored my sessions to showing me the more interesting things in the software that others may not get shown.
What started out as sessions I was not looking forward to became useful session thanks to the excellent teaching given to me.
I would be most happy to recommend Doug to anyone, his knowledge and understanding are second to none.

Doug provided an in depth training plan tailored specifically to my needs, he is an excellent communicator and exceptionally professional in his approach. I have no formal IT training and only limited skills yet he gave me the knowledge and confidence to use all the software supplied as part of my disability package showing a good understanding of dyslexia the potential problems associated with it. He was also able to suggest other software and free apps to help me during my ongoing studies.

Douglas Blane, was incisive in providing me with an in depth knowledge of the following assistive software packages (Olympus Sonority, Nuance Dragon Naturally Speaking, Mac Speech Scribe, Daisy Readers such as Readhear Pro, textHELP Read Write Gold 5, Inspiration, Microsoft Word for Mac). I found his knowledge of the software revealed a deep and detailed love of the subject. In addition to his knowledge of these software packages, I found Douglas was very passionate about Apple Mac Computers and most sensationally, was able to suggest exciting ways of making the best use of both the software and hardware. Douglas’, teaching style encompasses a personable and relaxed method of instruction that was easy to grasp and most definitely a motivational plus. Ultimately, I found Douglas to be Punctual, Reliable and Time Managed. I would recommend Douglas as being of the highest calibre.

Douglas Blane was given the task of training me to use a number of learning aids, I didn’t envy him!
Doug was completely easy to learn from and had a natural ability to impart knowledge to others in such a manner that, learning was something to look forward to. I found Doug to be utterly professional and could not recommend his services highly enough, you cannot fail to feel at total ease and expand your knowledge with his help.

Mr D. G. Blane provided me with Specialist Disability Training and helped enhanced my study by supplying an excellent knowledge of these advancing technologies. I say technologies, not just for ease of comprehension here, but because one can notice in Douglas, through his teaching, that he has acquired not just a knowledge, a committed manner, but has an overall realisations of what the complexities of these advancing technologies can do, and conveys this instruction in a marked excellence. I personally thank him for his patience, humour and again, his excellent knowledge of these wide ranging advancing technologies.

I thoroughly recommend Doug. He showed me a range of software and tailored and presented in a way that I understood. Without his help I would not have been able to use the software throughout my OU studies. This has been invaluable when the OU have been unable to provide me with a dylexia tutor.

I would definitely recommend Doug, he was so helpful, informative and patient with me. He is also a wizard on computers and seems to know everything about them, lol.

Also a very nice guy.

Doug was a very patient and upbeat trainer – and made the rather dull content of what I required training with (Dragon dictation) interesting! I would highly recommend him.

Doug’s work for me as a disability specialist technology trainer always been exemplary. He is a really creative guy who likes to get to grips with the detail of what he is doing. He is committed to his continuing professional development and is eager and willing to learn new skills and improve existing skills to make the best impression and provide the best solution to his clients. He is great at empathising with clients and working at a pace and in a manner that best matches their skills and their needs. I would certainly hire Doug again.
